Exercise to Lose Weight: Get Started, be Consistent

There are many great reasons why you should be exercising if you aren’t doing so already. I know better than anyone that it can be hard to find time during the day to get some exercise or any sort worked into a busy schedule, and sometimes the will to move is just not there.

However, if you really think about all that exercise can do for you, you will soon find many good reasons to get moving. One big reason of course, is exercising to lose weight. This is probably one of the biggest reasons why people start on any exercise program, and should be a good reason to continue. Always keep in mind that health and fitness is not just  a 12 week program.

If you have an exercise program, but you are maintaining your current weight, you'll have to amp it up a bit when you decide you want to exercise to lose weight. That means just adding an extra thirty minutes a week to what you are doing to see if it makes a difference.

If what you are doing is working to keep your weight level, it stands to reason that adding more can burn off more calories, and that means you can lose. You may also want to change your type of workout when you exercise, since it will take a a more intense calorie burn from these activities to get things back in gear.

If you don’t do any type of exercise for weight loss just yet, don't worry. Getting started does not have to be complicated or overly exhausting. You can start out with a simple walk each day, but do make sure you walk fast enough.  You are not just going for a stroll. Walk a little faster than normal when you want to exercise for weight loss. You may be surprised how just adding a little bit of a walk three or four times a week can really help when you step on the scales. As you go, you want to add more time, but walking might be all you need to get started.

As you get into shape you can walk a little faster, a little farther, and take more challenging routes. Our bodies have the annoying ability to adjust to whatever rouitine we're doing, so we get used to walks of the same length, speed, and challenge. Mix it up a bit. Step up into fitness walking when you're ready.

For those who feel that walking isn't for them, there are other methods to try when exercising to lose weight. Sometimes, joining a gym is the best answer, as many have people who can help you figure out a good beginners workout regime. Just have a routine written up will halp many people to get moving in the right direction. others might want to look into hiring a personal trainer. Though working out in a gym, and certainly hiring a trainer, costs more than walking around the block a few times, it can also be a lot more motivating when you want to exercise to lose that weight. You may even show up more often when you are paying for your membership.

They key to all of this though, is to get started and be consistent. Some people quit almost immediately, and some people never give up. Be part of the latter group and you'll see good results.
